December 12, 2017, PAWLEYS ISLAND, SC – Mercom Corporation, a federally focused information technology (IT) solutions provider, announced today that it was certified by the Small Business Administration (SBA), Historically Underutilized Business Zone (HUBZone) program.
The HUBZone program opens the door to help small businesses in urban and rural communities gain preferential access to federal procurement opportunities, setting the goal of awarding 3% of federal prime contract dollars to HUBZone-certified companies. Gaining HUBZone certification requires employing staff living in designated underutilized areas, reinforcing the efforts of both the Administration and Congress to promote economic development, and employment growth by increasing access to federal contracting opportunities. This SBA program aligns perfectly with Mercom’s commitment to diversify and grow Georgetown County’s economic space and bring higher paying tech jobs to the area.
“The Small Business Administration (SBA) negotiates socioeconomic goals with most federal agencies. The Historically Underutilized Business Zones (HUBZones) is an SBA program to invigorate urban and rural development giving companies in those areas access to prime federal contract opportunities. Mercom is excited to be re-certified with the SBA’s HUBZone program and helping federal agencies not only exceed their small business goals but also execute on IT, Cloud, and Cybersecurity initiatives,” said Stella Mercado, CEO/President of Mercom Corporation.
As a SBA HUBZone certified company with the Small Disadvantaged Business (SDB), Women Owned Small Business (WOSB), and Economically Disadvantaged Woman Owned Small Business (ED/WOSB) designations, and alongside Mercom’s expansive portfolio of prime contract vehicles, including, NASA SEWP V, NIH CIO-CS, GSA Schedules, and Agency Specific Contracts, Mercom now has greater access to competitive and sole source contracts, $6.5-$7.5 Million for all manufacturing NAICS codes and $4 Million for all other NAICS codes, as well as increased visibility to bid and proposals request.
